I'll be honest with you.
Google Business Profile is the most underused, misunderstood tool for getting enquiries in India right now. Business owners either don't have it, or they set it up once and forgot about it.
Meanwhile, the competitor who updates it every week is getting 3x the calls.
What GBP actually is
When you search "CA near me" or "web designer in Hyderabad" on Google, you see a map and 3 business listings before any websites. That's the Local Pack. Getting into that Local Pack is worth more than ranking on the first page for most local businesses.
Google Business Profile controls whether you appear there. If you don't have it, or it's incomplete, you simply won't show up — no matter how good your website is.
What Google actually looks at
Relevance
Your category and description must match exactly what people are searching for. If you're a CA and someone searches "chartered accountant for GST filing in Bangalore," your profile needs to mention GST filing specifically — not just "accounting services."
Distance
You can't change where your office is. But you can expand your service area in GBP settings if you serve multiple locations. Set every city you actually work in.
Prominence
Google measures how well-known and trusted your business is. Reviews are the clearest signal. More reviews, more recent reviews, responses to reviews — all of this tells Google you're a real, active business that clients trust.
The review problem
Most Indian businesses don't ask for reviews. They do great work, the client is happy, and nobody thinks to ask.
Your competitor who sends a WhatsApp message after every project saying "if you're happy with the work, could you leave us a Google review?" — they're at 40 reviews. You're at 4. Google shows them.
Fix this first. Go to your GBP profile, click Share Profile, copy the review link. Send it to every client after every project. That's it. Highest ROI action you can take this week.
Gemini (Google's AI) pulls directly from GBP data when recommending local businesses. A complete, regularly updated profile with strong reviews means you're much more likely to be recommended by Gemini when someone asks for a business like yours.
